Diff Checker
Compare and find differences between two texts or code snippets
This tool helps you compare two texts and highlight the differences between them. You can upload files, use example templates, or paste your own text. Switch between edit mode and diff view to see the changes.
Compare two blocks of text, code, or config side-by-side or inline, with word-level highlighting to spot exactly what changed. Useful for reviewing pull requests, comparing API responses, or checking config drift between environments — everything runs locally in your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is 'Compare as JSON/YAML/XML' different from the regular diff?
The regular diff compares text line by line, so reordering keys or reformatting whitespace shows up as a change even when the data is identical. JSON, YAML, and XML compare modes instead parse both sides and re-serialize them in a canonical form — keys sorted recursively, consistent indentation — before diffing, so formatting, whitespace, and key order are completely ignored and only real content changes show up.
What's the difference between split and inline view?
Split view shows the original and modified text in two side-by-side columns, which is easier for comparing large blocks. Inline view merges both into a single column with additions and deletions marked in place, which is often easier for line-by-line review.
Can I upload files instead of pasting text?
Yes — click the upload icon above either text panel in Edit mode to load a file's contents directly from your device.
Does the diff ignore formatting differences like extra whitespace?
By default the diff is whitespace-sensitive. Toggle 'Word Diff' off to compare at the line level only, which reduces noise from minor inline formatting changes.
Is it safe to paste sensitive data into the diff checker?
Yes — the comparison runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Neither the original nor modified text is uploaded to a server.
